Seven Red Flags of a Lottery Scam

Fake prize calls, upfront fee requests and pressure tactics: how to spot a lottery scam fast and what to do next.

Lottery scams target people of every age. These seven red flags cover most of them.

  1. You "won" a game you never entered. No ticket, no prize.
  2. They want money first. Fees, taxes or "processing" costs paid upfront are a scam.
  3. Gift cards or wire transfers. Real lotteries never ask for these.
  4. Urgency. "Claim in the next hour" is a pressure tactic.
  5. Secrecy. Being told not to tell family is a warning sign.
  6. A foreign lottery. Playing foreign lotteries by mail or phone is generally illegal for US residents.
  7. Requests for bank details or your SSN by phone, text or social media.

What to do

Stop contact, don't send money, and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If you already paid, contact your bank right away.

Also be wary of anyone selling software that "guarantees" winning numbers. That promise is always false.

Apollo AI is upfront about this: its Pattern Engine describes the past and never claims to predict draws.
